Holy Week and Easter

Holy Week has gone by and let me just say that I just didn't feel it. Over here in America, it wasn't a big deal unlike back in the Philippines. Back there, once Holy Week comes, everything's closed. People head off to vacation spots around the country. Masses are held and people flock to attend. Here in America, it wasn't the same. It was like nobody cared.

My Holy Week went by with me at work. That was it. Work. It was just like any other ordinary week. Because of this, I wasn't able to observe what I normally would had I been in the Philippines. I wasn't able to go to mass or do the traditional "bisita Inglesia", where Catholics would go to a number of different churches to say prayers. The only time I was able to go to mass - or church, even - was earlier this morning, Easter day. It just wasn't the same and neither did it feel the same.

In some ways, this may have been good for me because I was able to earn money, which would be good for my Master's Degree funding. However, it cost me a chance to sit back, reflect, and spend quality time with God. It also cost me the time to rest and relax, something I could certainly use.

Holy Week is just like any other week. Looks like this is what I have to expect from a culturally and religiously diverse country.
