Career talk
Last night and earlier this afternoon, I engaged my Auntie Nidia and Uncle Ching into a heart-to-heart, one-on-one talk regarding the direction of my life. I am presently unhappy with the jobs I've been having (retail/sales jobs suck) and I figured I needed to talk to those who have struggled and made it big here in America. What did they do to make it big? What were the steps? What do I need to do to make it big?
Though both had different paths in life, they both had ONE ANSWER: GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND GET A MASTER'S DEGREE.
They made me think about what I really wanted to do in my life. What did I enjoy doing? What makes me happy? And I thought of three things: sports, kids, and writing.
Likewise, these bring about different potentials for me. If I want a career in sports, then I can become a broadcaster, a sports writer, or maybe a sports psychologist (how I wish professional sports could be possible...). If I want a career with kids, I can go into teaching or counseling. If I want a career in writing, then I can become a journalist or a writer.
But when I started really thinking about it, here are the following careers I'd like to be in: human resources, child psychology/counseling, and sports writing/sports journalism.
At this point, I'm gonna have to see which is the most feasible for me and what I'll really enjoy. Right now, I'm a little biased towards child psychology/counseling because of my fondness for kids.
And so the hunt for a school/university (and money for that) begins...
Hopefully, I'll be enrolled by Fall 2005.
